Groundsheet/Capes were issued to the British Army from 1917, the syle remained virtually unchanged until it was replaced by the poncho when 1958 pattern webbing was issued. This cape is in remarkably good condition apart from a slit to the front 'skirt' (See photo), still supple as is the rubber surface uncrazed. Several years ago these capes were selling for just under Ã1000 (at auction) each undated, over the thousand with a date. This example has no date present. |
