A Scarce set of 1939 dated (both halves) aluminium mess tins. By 1940, due to the requirements of the aircraft industry for aluminium, messtins were being manufactured in tinned steel(hmm, lead with your food, lovely). Productionj in aluminium recommenced in 1945 for supplies for the planned invasion of Japan. These aluminium messtins were therefore produced in relatively amall numbers and few have survived. Sold as display items only, WARNING could contain lead in the solder coating, should be thoroughly cleaned if it is intended to use them.
