With the advent of the Fire Watchers during the Blitz the next stage was to form Supplementary Fire Parties and Street Fire Parties (both confusingly referred to as SFP's), from 1941 service in the now renamed Fire Guard became compulsory for all eligeable citizens, equipped with little more than a civilian pattern helmet, a bucket and stirrup pump (sometimes a NFS overall and wellington boots) the job of these teams was to control the thousands of incendiaries dropped over towns and cities. The job was that important that ARP 'officers' were often frafted across to lead these groups. The SFP's did not last very long so their armbands are quite scarce.
