Rescue Badge, issued when the ARP service changed its title to Civil Defence in mid 1941 as part of the review following the Blitz in the winter of 1940/41. One of these changes was a move from blue and red colours to black/navy blue and 'old gold' yellow badges. To make matters more complicated thew rescue service started life as 'Shoring and Demolition' in some areas, 'Rescue' in others. By the time of the Blitz they had become the 'Light' and 'Heavy' rescue parties! This changed again during later reorganisation and once again they were reunited around 1942 under the overall heading of 'Rescue'. This badge is a genuine WW2 unissued example |
