Size 9 Austerity Pattern Battledress jacket (dated 1945, but blurred, matches stamp codes in trousers though) and trousers of Sergeant-Major Metcalf plus his officers pattern beret dated 1944.

WO2 Metcalf was in the BEF in 1940 and evacuated from France, then in 1941 he was transferred to the newly formed REME and joined his unit in Ireland. From there he went to the Western Desert, probably 22nd Armoured Brigade Workshops. He appears to have been with them through El Alamein etc. When 7th Armoured went to Normandy he was with them and served right through to the end of the war.

WO2 Metcalf was a prolific photographer and the seller of his uniform who was a family friend to whom the uniform was left when Metcalf died, allowed us to scan his photograph albums of the war and after. There are lots of photographs of desert scenes including captured German aircraft. Lots more show gliders and tanks and town scenes in Europe. After the war Metcalf worked in a garage, he also built his own sailing dinghy from an old lifeboat, restored veteran cars and built working scale model steam engines from scratch as he was an accomplished engineer.

Along with the photographs we have copies of WO Metcalf's surviving documents including his attestation form and a photo of his medals which the vendor also retained.

The uniform is overall in VGC, the only faults being a small moth nip below gaiter level on one leg plus a bout three very small nips min the crutch and a little stain on one pocket. Beret is also VGC
